Indian news sites record 16% increase in reach

The reach of the news and information sites in India has jumped by 16% in the last one year, according to the State of the Internet report released by ComScore.com

The report that had a special focus on India shows that 58 percent of Indian web users visited a News/Info site in March 2011 as compared to 50% in March 2010.

The Yahoo! News Network, which includes Yahoo! News India, had the largest reach in this segment, reaching a third of the web audience.

The Times of India was the next most popular site reaching 16.6% of the Indian web users, and was followed by the New York Times Digital which had a reach of 11.9%.

Another interesting finding was the average time spent by the Indian web users on news sites. The report found that The Times of India website kept the web user engaged for the longest period of time. According to the report, the average time spent by users on the Times website was 15.7 minutes.

NDTV.com and Yahoo! News Network followed close behind with 14.4 and 14.1 minutes per user.
