Internet users in India have hit the 100 million mark, according to the latest data released by Internet World Stats (IWS) for Internet usage in India in 2010.

The 2010 data published by IWS on its website does not indicate if the figures include mobile internet users.

But the figures certainly give Indians a reason to cheer. They show that Internet usage in India is growing at a healthy rate.

The figures are particularly heartening when compared with the 2009 numbers put out by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). In 2009, the number of Internet users stood at 81 million. In other words 19 more million Indians have started accessing the net.

In percentage terms, 8.5% of India’s population accessed the Internet in 2010 as compared to 7.5% in 2009.
