India-Pak semi-final draws most one-day eyeballs

The data on the use of net by cricket fans to access World Cup Cricket matches is in, and there are no surprises. The India-Pakistan semi-final match on March 30 witnessed the tallest peak.

The match drew the largest online audience for an individual day, comScore.com has revealed in an online blog.

Yahoo! Cricket, with 1.8 million visitors, surpassed ESPNCricInfo.com’s audience of 1.7 million visitors that day. ESPNStar.com, CricTime.com, and CricBuzz.com also drew their highest daily visitor totals on this day.

The next tallest Manhattan was recorded in the India-Sri Lanka final. The other matches when traffic surged were the much-anticipated matches involving India.

The first peak was hit in the March 12 match featuring India vs. South Africa. Next was the March 24 Australia vs. India match. It drew 1.8 million visitors to ESPNCricInfo.com, 1.7 million visitors to Yahoo! Cricket, and 1.3 million visitors to ESPNStar.com.

ESPNCricInfo.com attracted the highest number of weekly visitors from India with 6.3 million visiting the site during the week of semifinals (week ending March 20).

In the final week (week ending April 3), when India played Sri Lanka in the final, ESPNCricInfo.com clocked 6.6 million visitors, up 8 percent versus 5 weeks prior.

The other cricket sites too experienced dramatic surges. Yahoo! Cricket’s weekly visitation saw a 33-percent jump as compared to the traffic before World Cup Cricket began; CricBuzz.com gained 36 percent; ESPNStar.com saw a sizeable 75-percent increase to 4.3 million visitors, while CricTime.com saw the most dramatic percentage increase at 86 percent.
