Broadband connections in India went up by 3.18 million during 2010, growing from 8.03 million in January 2010 to 11.21 million in January 2011.
The growth was not spectacular, but it was steady with a month on month growth averaging around 2.50%. A similar growth rate was recorded in 2009.
Clearly, broadband connectivity in India is not growing at a pace that telecom companies would like. They have been rolling out attractive plans to lure customers – plans that promise higher bandwidth at more affordable prices.
The market push is likely to suffer in the coming year with telecom companies focusing on 3G and high speed data cards.
