The news is not good for Internet Explorer. The browser that was used by over 90% Indians a few years ago today is down to 40.6%.

The decline is steady, and according to figures put out by Statcounter.com the Microsoft-owned browser slided from 51.67 per cent in December 2009 to 40.6% in December 2010 – that is a plunge of 10% in one year.

In contrast, Google chrome doubled in popularity in India. Its market share grew from 11.48% in December 2009 to 23.04% in 2010.

Firefox, which is the third major browser being used in India, managed to hold on to its market share. It moved in a flat line of around 31 to 32%.
