8%of India's web users visit Twitter

Eight per cent of Indian Internet users access Twitter from their home or work places, a comScore.com study on Twitter growth worldwide has shown.

The study that was released on August 11 studied 41 markets in June this year, and found that the highest Twitter penetration was in Indonesia (20.8% of the country’s Internet users). Brazil ranked second with 20.5 percent penetration, followed by Venezuela at 19.0 percent.

India was 18th on this list, three decimal points ahead of Malaysia. If one converts the percentage into figures, the number of Indians who access Twitter stand around 5.6 million.

The study further found that in June nearly 93 million Internet users visited Twitter.com, an increase of 109 percent from the previous year.

Giving a worldwide break up of growth, the study noted that Latin America experienced the strongest audience growth, surging 305 percent to 15.4 million users. The growth in Asia Pacific was 243 percent, Africa jumped 142 percent while Europe soared 106 percent.
