Facebook yet to displace Orkut as India’s top social networking site

Social networking may be getting synonymous with Facebook in the US, but this social networking site is still to beat Orkut in India.

According to a study conducted by comScore.com, 46.8% of India’s web population prefers Google-owned Orkut as its main social networking destination.

India is not the only Asia-Pacific market where Facebook is yet to tighten its hold. The other marketrs are Japan where Mixi.jp is most popular, South Korea where CyWorld is the leader, and Taiwan where Yahoo!’s Wretch.cc dominates.

The eight Asia-pacific nations where Facebook is the number one social networking site are: Philippines, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Vietnam.

The study was conducted by comScore.com in February 2010 and covered the Asia-Pacific region (excluding China)
